Healthcare Site Infrastructure Upgrade

Ecomec has successfully completed a major gas infrastructure project for a Mental Health Unit in London following a significant gas leak.

This project involved upgrading the gas infrastructure across the entire estate, ensuring the provision of services to existing facilities.

The aging and leaking metal gas pipes were replaced with new plastic MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) pipework, ensuring a safe and reliable gas supply for the facilities for many years to come.

This modern material offers enhanced durability and leak resistance, crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of the Mental Health Unit’s operations.

The project was completed in just one month, with a temporary oil boiler installed to provide uninterrupted heating and hot water to the buildings. This measure ensured that the site remained fully operational throughout the upgrade process.

Comprehensive traffic and pedestrian management systems were also implemented to ensure the safe movement of staff and visitors, minimizing disruption and maintaining a safe environment during the works.

Scope of Works

• Design and Calculations: Conducting detailed design and calculations to determine the appropriate size of the new Gas Distribution Network, as well as planning the optimal route for the new pipework.
• Installation of Gas Mains: Installation of a DN90 Gas Mains, with one line serving the Main Plant Room and the other servicing the remaining buildings within the grounds. This ensures a robust and reliable gas supply to all parts of the estate.
• Installation of Welded Pre-Fabricated Pipework: Installation of welded pre-fabricated pipework in the Main Plant Room, ensuring high-quality and secure connections.
• Modifications to the boundary pipework to integrate the new Gas Distribution Pipework, providing a seamless transition from the old system to the new.

The project not only addressed the immediate issue of the gas leak but also future-proofed the Mental Health Unit’s gas infrastructure, enhancing safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

The successful completion of this project demonstrates Ecomec’s expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions.
